White Hair

We all struggle with our hair in the wind.

Marianna

Every week or so I get to help Marianna pick flowers early in the morning. Several neighbors let her grow flowers in their yards. She then conditions them and makes bouquets that she sells at farmers markets. And the occasional wedding, etc. It takes about an hour to fill the wagon. An hour of early morning beauty.

Chicks Do Grow

They do grow, they do fly over the top, and they do poop. But, we are closing in on our chicken coop rebuild, and the chicks are soon to move to a new home. And none too soon: Peeeuuuwww in the dining room.

Woodsy Collection

Naturally the old cars find permanent homes in the woods. Like farmers, these woodsmen never get rid of old cars and trucks, they simply park them back out of the way.

Frog

Frogs do their socializing at night and they keep it up until precisely 2 a.m. I know, because I was looking around for things to count lying there awake until 2 a.m. Other than that , it's quite wonderful sleeping in a treehouse out in the woods.

Water Bucket

Traipsing around in the woods where the water was right under our feet appearing in little creeks. Then it gets quietly pumped to here and there.

Tree Propellers

Spent two days at Kent & Joy's cutting logs for firewood and checking on things while they were away. Very nice to be alone: slept in a treehouse, slowed down.

Marjorie's Dining Room

Spent the evening at Marjorie's last night. One of her lamps didn't have a shade and it cast deep shadows into the dining room.

5 O'Clock Shadow

It was just about 5:00 when I happened across this orb. Not certain what it is - maybe an old gall from a tree or something? The ants were definitely interested in it so I rushed inside and grabbed my nifty, new Joby tripod so I could try for a close-up.

Poppy to be

I keep the little camera in my shirt pocket when working on the fence; then I grab and snap as I fetch tools and hold levels and hand over tools.

Morning Angles

Woke early, early this morning to a very still and quiet gray day. So peaceful could hardly resent the cloud cover. But, when I got up to fetch the camera, I found it to be quite a cold and gray day. Spent the morning working in a friend's garden while she is on the mend from surgery. Cold here, cold there.

Crooked Building

Which one is the crooked one? We were outside Nicholas Restaurant waiting for a table when we spotted the crookedness. Probably doesn't matter, because there is something much more interesting in the photo: a bit of BLUE SKY!! And it's blue again today - along with showers.

Ferns

Funny how, on our first warm, sunny day, I find something so pretty in the shade. April was our wettest month on record and only the 13th, this June is the second wettest June on record. I think those are webs between my toes.

Giving and Taking

Taking food, giving money. Giving food, taking money. We stopped for dinner after a big day of fence building and another trip to Home Depot.

Nail Sharpener

We salvaged nails from the old fence and fixed them up for the new - something to do during a huge downpour yesterday. One of ever so many.

Working Inside

Rain slows down fence project so we do what we can indoors. We trimmed the slats and drilled small holes for later nailing. You can see the chicks are getting bigger and taking up more of the dining room in their enlarged wire brooder covered with cloth to keep them from drafts and topped with folded newspaper to keep them from flying out. Next week should be warm and dry and the plan is to take the wire cage outside so they can watch us work out there.

Mid-Project

Here our basement door is open with cords running to the carport where we have set up shop moving, measuring, cutting, moving again, all the posts and slats for our new fence. Hoses lying around, too, not that they've had much to do yet. Notice the shadow on the sidewalk! Haven't seen many shadows this month. It's only the 9th, and June is about to break an all-time rainfall record. Warm and rainy means powdery mildew will soon be on everything!

White Peony

Everything is still covered with rain drops. Our fence project has given the white peonies a hard time, yet they hold their heavy heads up.

Still At It

In case you may have thought we'd drop this obsession already, not a chance. It's a pretty automatic activity and I can't say we are any smarter for it. Wanna play?

Coleus

Market annuals all lined up.

Evening Sun through Back Porch

Dust motes on the screen door gave the sunbeams some sparkle and the lattice gave a pattern.

Elena

At almost a month, Elena is bursting out with new wisps; she's hairy! The chicks are still under the red heat lamp, so their world is really this red.

Clematis

I say Cle MAT is, and you say CLEM ah tis . . . . whatever we call it, if it's here, it's covered in rain drops. Tomorrow is June 2 and we are expected to get over an inch of rain. Seems like everything in the yard is shivering.
