Up the L-L-L-Ladder

Doesn't have anything to do with Halloween, yet it scares the bejeebers out of you.

Union Pumpkin

Jack O' Station getting carved.  Corn candy to keep you away.

Eyes on You

When the wind blows leaves up into the air, sometimes there's a break in the clouds and bluey eyes peer down looking for a puddle to land in. Or - are the eyes already in the puddle waiting to leap into the air! Right where you are standing.

Dr. Suess Trees

Tall witch trees just waiting for Halloween. When it's dark out they actually creep forward a bit; it's hardly perceptible, but they are coming to get you.

Eerily Halloween

Have had this cloth covering our bedroom window for a few weeks until I get the inside parts painted and we can hang our new shades. The shape is sometimes a cross, sometimes an ethereal woman, tense eyes behind a teal birqa, but mostly it makes me think of halloween.

Leggs

Buying groceries late at night finds you standing in line with shoppers who are heading for some fun.

Birch Nails

Some keep them undercover. I myself, am still longing for a pedicure but keep thinking I should do it when I know I'll keep my feet clean for awhile - like in the winter. but then, who would see my toes - and I definitely would opt for toenail polish! (The little blooms are tiny cyclamen!)

Jack's Bean Ladder

Why would he climb a bean stalk when he could use a ladder!

No Standees

Took a trip to the Oregon Garden yesterday with a group of Master gardeners. Check it out: http://www.oregongarden.org/ Next time you come up, we can go there. 15 miles East of Salem. It was fun. We had a guided tour that included a ride on the Tram.

Yellow House and Lettuce

My Garden Club toured the rooftop garden of a nifty restaurant on Burnside St. The view and the food were great.

Don't Get Lost

We sat by an open window to eat our supper at the St. Johns Pub. It was raining and we had only the screen to keep us from completely mixing with the elements. The table was damp making our Bananagram game slow, sure, and sticky. But, the burgers were good.

Ice Cream

We were all screaming for this ice cream at the Demo Garden Fair. Besides the chocolate, there was vanilla mint and rosemary mint. It was all yummy, too, although not as delectable as the fresh bruchetti.

Tomatoes are Coming On

And just as they have started to ripen, fall has started, too. Our summer has been all too short.

Enchanted Kale

I spent most of the day at the MG Demo Garden Fair. Rainy and warm. Fun with just a small crowd. This is a tall stand of kale sprinkled with raindrops, probably more delectable if harvested earlier.

Tethered to the Air

Nothing like a good stretch.

A break in the Rain

Hydrangeas with ferns and False Solomon's Seal.

Paint Store

Oh dear, we are painting the outside of our house. Most notably, the tall, south side. So, we scraped and scraped above the porch then headed for an eye appt for Eric and a stop at the paint store where I decided to choose a color for the bedroom which is also in desparaate need of new paint. but it was the lovely masking tape that caught my eye. (When we left the store it was raining - and it still is!)

Still Life

Photographing wedding flowers again for Marianna. These are the bouquets for the bride (with the lilies) and her attendant. What does the attendant actually do?

Compost

Cleaned our chicken coop the other day and mixed together all sorts of organic ingredients to it. Full of so many wonderful things!

Ziggy Bike Parts

Bikes galore. Same gal with the green bottles has plenty of bikes and bike parts. In fact, she built her current bike from other bike parts. What would possess you to do that? Course, I should understand living with at least 6 cars on site at any given time. It may be that possess is the operative here.

Green Bottles

Jackie keeps lots of bottles lined up. She also has small tomato sauce cans lined up along an open shelf. And she makes portraits out of bottle caps (which she collects). You might spot a couple of little montsters in this pic, too. Maybe distant relatives of yours? I don't mean YOUR relative, but relatives of the monster you posted the other day?!

Cat in a Loop

My feral cat, Yin Yang, is so hard to photograph. Partly because that white fur is always so clean and bright - difficult to get a good exposure, and partly because in person she looks so sweet but in pictures her skeptical take on the world comes through. I think she hopes to come back in another life as a pampered kitten with regular trips to a salon. It must be so hard to be a long-haired feral cat.

Hibiscus

Our days have been cloudy in the morning and sunny later on; reminds me so much of the Bay Area and Santa Cruz! Eric's old hibiscus sits in the living room producing occasional blooms, never failing to surprise us.

All Girls Are Gorgeous in Jantzen

Found this hanging in the baseball stadium. Like the baseball team itself, Jantzen is a has been. Jantzen Swimwear manufactured their swimsuits over on Sandy Blvd. and about 23rd for years and years. My friend Terril went to work there at age 18 and stayed for at least 30 years!

Baseball

Today we watched the last game of professional baseball in Portland. No more Portland Beavers who are a farm team for San Diego. The players were introduced and someone in front of us stuck their finger up as though to say, "put one more guy right here." It was fun, and corny as baseball can be. The Beavers won the game but lost the war as they say. Our mayor sold the stadium to a soccer team leaving the Beavers without a home.

High Shadow Act

Bike, shadow and tiny bird shadow to boot. Looking down from the Burnside Bridge.

Spider Legs

A flurry of fuzzy legs plotting to catch whatever flies in amongst the basil.

Porch Pots

It helps to carry the camera with you and snap as you go. Of course you risk leaving on the woodpile where you set it down to help Eric install a second nest in the henhouse. Then you go off and move some compost and about 2 hours later catch a glimpse of it on the woodpile in the full sun. Maybe I should only carry the small camera around, of course then I'd never see it again.

Napkin

Napkin with chair and loose thread. Yes, sometimes I feel like I'm drawing straws when it comes to choosing the picture du jour. Not that I'm messing with the whole idea of straws, mind you,  although I know someone who is messing with straws, but I'll bet not for very long.

I'll drink to that!

Bright Blooms

Today was a wonderful mix of brightness, clouds,  and warm showers. All the tired plants are perking up after a bit of moisture. I'm hoping there is brightness and good news down where you are.
